When it comes to furnaces, we recommend repairing if practical every time!

We only recommend replacement if you are running less than 80% efficiency or if you have a leaky heat exchanger in your current furnace.

Due to legislation changes in the past few years, you can only buy high efficient furnaces which means some lovely white plastic vents running out of your home. Unfortunately this does increase the cost of replacement and makes it tricky to find a path for the venting to run with the least resistance possible.

A furnace can be replaced for around $3000 and others tend to be a little more costly, depending on the duct work, venting, and location of your current furnace.

Repairs to furnaces tend to be quick and beneficial. The furnace parts needing replacement or repair could be a cracked hot surface igniter (HSI) which could cause ignition issues. A dirty flame sensor, which causes the flame to ignite and go out after 3-5 seconds, a stuck gas valve which means replacing the valve, a faulty circuit board, which means a new board, a pressure switch, inducer fan, flame roll out switch, limit switch, blower motor, or on older furnaces, relays, thermocouple, 24v ignition control box, fan high limit switch, or gas pressure issues.

Most if not all of these can be changed out within an hour in the Edmonton area but some parts are more costly than others. Sometimes it’s as simple as replacing the furnace filter!
